How to Use Dettol
Dettol is a longstanding brand of liquid antiseptic cleanser that is diluted and used to disinfect surfaces, laundry and can even be used on the skin to aid in clearing certain skin conditions such as abscesses related to acne and preventing infection.
It has a highly distinctive scent that is derived from a compound of phenol mixed with pine oil and other ingredients. This original liquid formulation is just one product of a large range including bar and liquid hand soaps, specialty surface cleansers and wipes, air fresheners, skin cream, bandages or plasters and detergents.
Things You Will Need
- Dettol product or products of choice
- Hot or warm water
- Clean rags or sponges
- Bucket or sink
- Paper towels
Warning
Dettol, as with other cleansers, is toxic if ingested. Handle the product with care and handle the full strength liquid in a well ventilated area.

Wipe down surfaces with a clean rag dipped in a solution of one part Dettol to five parts warm or hot water to clean and disinfect. Rinse the rag well in clear water and wipe or rinse away any cleanser residue.

Wipe down counters, bathroom fixtures and surfaces with the pre-moistened Dettol wipes or spray the areas with one of the Dettol surface cleansers and wipe clean with a sponge or paper toweling.

Wash clothes and bedding in Dettol laundry detergent or a dilution of Dettol original according to the directions on the bottle.

Spray Dettol air fresheners into the air or disinfectant sprays onto surfaces to neutralize airborne odors or to kill bacteria on surfaces such as doorknobs, toilet handles and light switches.
