How to Get Dry Erase Marker Out of a Wood Door
Dry erase markers easily come off whiteboards, but when the marker gets on your wood door, removing it isn’t as simple as just wiping it off with an eraser. Although dry erase marker is not considered permanent, a more aggressive approach is necessary to get it off your wood door.
When cleaning up the marker, work carefully so the wood doesn't become damaged in the process.
Things You Will Need
- Household lubricating spray
- Sponge
- Dish soap
- Soft cloths
- Cotton balls
- Nail polish remover
Warning
Test the product you are using on an inconspicuous spot of the door to check for any damage or changes in color. If the nail polish remover takes off any of the finish or paint, touch up may be necessary with a wood stain marker or matching paint.
-
Saturate the marker stain with household lubricating spray. Let the spray sit on the stain for five minutes.
-
Dampen a sponge with warm, soapy water. Gently rub the sponge over the marker to scrub it off, using small, circular motions. Dry the door thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
-
Moisten a cotton ball with nail polish remover if any marker remains. Rub the cotton ball gently over the marker, again working in a circular motion, until the stain is gone. Rinse with a damp rag and dry thoroughly.
