How to Clean Feces From a Carpet With Vinegar
Upon spotting feces on the carpet, it is important to quickly remove the feces and clean the stain before it sets into the carpet. Regardless of whether the feces is of human or animal origin, vinegar is a good choice for cleaning and removing the stains.
Vinegar works as a light disinfectant and also neutralizes odors. Vinegar is a household item that is safe for use around children and pets.
Things You Will Need
- 1 tsp. liquid dishwashing detergent
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- Carpet brush
- Cloth or rag
- Spray bottle
- Small bowl

Remove any pieces of feces that can be picked up. Flush them down the toilet or throw them away.

Use paper towels or a rag to remove any liquid. Lay the paper towels or the rag over the spot and step on it to soak up any moisture.

Mix 1 cup of water with 1 tsp. liquid dishwashing detergent in a small bowl. Dip a corner of a dishcloth or rag in the mixture, and lightly rub the mixture into the feces stain. Rub in a circular motion to fully work the mixture into the stain. You may also use a carpet brush for this step. Re-dip the cloth in the mixture as needed. Continue rubbing the mixture in until the stain is not visible.

Combine 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup of warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the stain and use a carpet brush to work the mixture into the carpet. The vinegar works to neutralize the feces. Let the mixture sit on the carpet for five minutes.

Dip a cloth or rag in warm water. Ring it out so the cloth is slightly damp. Rub the cloth into the carpet to remove all of the soap, vinegar and ammonia. You may have to soak and ring the dishcloth several times to remove all of the residue.

Get a clean, dry rag or towel. Set it over the area and step on it to remove any excess moisture from the carpet.
