How to Change the Power Settings for a Maytag Microwave
Maytag microwaves are built with adjustable power settings controlled by the electronic keypad on the front of the appliance. Using the lower settings can save electricity, although the higher settings help heat foods such as frozen dinners much faster than low-power settings. Prepackaged microwaveable foods typically come with instructions and a recommended power setting. Changing the Maytag microwave's power level to a new setting takes only a few seconds.
Step 1
Enter the cook time on the numeric keypad on the front of the Maytag. For example, to cook for five minutes and 30 seconds you would press the 5, 3, and 0 keys only.
Step 2
Press the "Power Level" button.
Step 3
Press the number on the keypad corresponding to the desired power level. For example, press 8 to cook at the 80 percent power level.
Step 4
Touch the "Enter/Start" button on the keypad to begin cooking.

Tips
- A Maytag microwave resets to 100 percent cooking power after the end of a timed cooking cycle. Doing nothing to the power setting means you'll cook at 100 percent of power.
- The microwave adjusts automatically to 70 percent power after 25 minutes of cooking as a safety feature to prevent overcooking food.
