Purchase indoor fire retardant from a home supply store.
Pour the fire retardant into a spray bottle if it was not purchased in one.
Keep children and pets out of the room where the lamp shade you are spraying is located.
Remove the shade from the lamp fixture. Set the lamp down on a carpeted surface.
Spray a mist of fire retardant on both sides of the lamp shade. Make sure the entire shade is covered, but do not soak the shade.
Wait for the lamp shade to dry. This should take only a matter of minutes if sprayed properly.
Return the shade to the lamp fixture. Children and pets may re-enter the room.
