How to Replace a Switch on a Kenmore Dryer

The Kenmore dryer door switch has an operational mechanism that keeps it from drying when the door is open. The switch can easily become worn over time but luckily can be fixed with simple tools and a new switch. Use caution when rewiring and replacing the dryer's parts. Always remember to disconnect the machine to protect yourself from shock.

A defective Kenmore dryer switch can be repaired with a few simple tools.
  1. Disconnect the Kenmore dryer from the wall outlet. Wear safety glasses.

  2. Locate the door switch. It is around the door opening in the front panel. You may be able to pop the switch out of place or you can remove it by removing the screw.

  3. Label the two wires leading to the door switch so that you will be able to properly re-attach them later. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to carefully remove each wire.

  4. Pull the switch out from inside the dryer cabinet.

  5. Insert the replacement switch into the dryer cabinet as instructed on the product label. Re-assemble the dryer cabinet, if necessary. Test run the dryer to make sure it is functioning properly.
