Portable Dishwasher Directions

Meredith Jameson

Portable dishwashers are meant for residential use, usually in very small spaces where a permanent dishwasher cannot be installed. The dishwasher is on wheels and is connected to the faucet at a sink, as well as a power supply when in use, and disconnected from the water and power and stored in another area when not in use. Several different companies manufacture portable dishwashers. The units are relatively straightforward to use, but should only be operated by adults due to the use of hot water and electricity.

Step 1

Run water at the sink where the dishwasher will be connected until the water is hot, then turn the water off. Remove the water connector from the rear of the dishwasher and attach it to the faucet. Note that some types of portable dishwasher faucet connections require the washer, screen and screen holder/aerator to be removed from the end of the faucet before connecting the adapter.

Step 2

Push down on the collar on top of the connector while pushing the connector up on the faucet. When the connector is pushed all the way up on the faucet, release the collar to snap into position.

Step 3

Place the large hose that connects to the faucet adapter into the sink drain. Turn on the hot water and plug the dishwasher into a power outlet. Pour automatic dishwasher detergent into the dispenser cup, and rinse aid into the rinse aid dispenser cup. Close the dispenser cup lids.

Step 4

Press or select the desired wash cycle. Choose a “Light” or “Delicate” wash for china or other breakable items, “Normal” wash for most dishes with normal soil and debris, and “Heavy” wash or “Pots and Pans” for bigger items or heavier soil levels. Add any other wash option cycles, such as “Extra Rinse” for additional rinsing, or “Heated Dry” if you selected a delicate wash cycle. Press or select “Start” to begin.

Step 5

Turn off the hot water when the dishwasher has finished washing. Unplug the dishwasher and wind the power cord. Push the pressure release button on the faucet connector, then press down on the collar on the connector to release the connector.

Step 6

Drain the water from the hoses into a large container if the sink is set more than 34 inches up off the floor. Place the end of the hose into the container and hold the container and hose down towards the floor to drain the excess water. If the sink is located less than 34 inches from the floor, the water should have drained directly into the sink drain during dishwasher use.

Step 7

Store the faucet connector, hoses and power cord on the rear of the dishwasher.
