- Slide the refrigerator out from the wall to reach the electrical cord behind the appliance. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
- Close the water supply valve to the ice maker, if your refrigerator has one, turning the valve knob clockwise until tight. The valve is located either along the pipe that connects to the back of the refrigerator or beneath the kitchen sink. Under the sink, you'll find the valve where the water supply line taps into the cold water pipe, which is on the right side.
- Twist the hex nut counterclockwise on the end of the water supply line where it connects to the rear of the refrigerator, using pliers. Lower the end of the water line into a bucket to catch the excess water.
