How to Re-Glue Loose Parquet Wood Pieces

A parquet floor is comprised of a multitude of small wood pieces, assembled together in a pattern to create a floor that can add character to a room. However, those small pieces can loosen over time with regular wear and tear and require a little upkeep and repair to maintain the floor’s charm and appeal. If the wiggly pieces in your parquet floor just refuse to be ignored any longer, give your floor the attention it deserves and glue those pieces back into place.

Step 1

Lay each loose parquet wood piece face down on your work surface. Use a medium-grit sandpaper to remove any of the old, dried glue on the bottom of each piece. The old glue can add height to the wood pieces, making them stick up higher than the rest of the parquet floor. Dust off each piece with a lint-free cloth.

Step 2

Use a vacuum to clean out any dust and debris from the hole in the floor. Dirt in the hole can also cause the parquet wood pieces to sit unevenly and adhere improperly.

Step 3

Reassemble the wood pieces in the hole in the flooring to ensure a proper fit. Once you have the pieces fitting well, remove them one at a time and use a pencil or marker to number the back of each one. Now you will know in which order to secure them back into the floor.

Step 4

Spread the parquet adhesive on the back of the first piece of parquet flooring. Use a paintbrush to spread a little in the hole in the floor as well. You can spread the adhesive across the entire missing sections in the floor and work quickly to reassemble the pieces, or apply a little at a time so you don't have to rush the repair project.

Step 5

Place the first wood piece into the hole in the floor and press firmly for a few seconds. Apply adhesive to the back of the next piece of flooring (and in the hole if you haven’t already) and press the wood into place. Repeat to reassemble the entire missing section. As you press down on the wood pieces, adhesive might ooze from the top as the section is filled. Wipe away any access adhesive with a lint-free cloth.

Step 6

Cover the newly assembled section with a lint-free cloth and place a heavy object, such as a book or wood block, on top to maintain pressure on the wood pieces. Allow the adhesive to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
