Clean up spills immediately with a clean cloth or paper towel. Blot the area, being sure not to rub or push so hard that you cause excess moisture to seep deep into the fibers. Apply club soda to a clean cloth and gently blot the rug if the spill looks like it may turn into a stain. Dry the area with a hair dryer on low, or place a fan nearby to help it dry quicker.

Vacuum the rug regularly to prevent dirt from lodging deeply within the fibers. Use a dull knife or plastic edge to scrape away any dirt that may have become stuck on the rug, and vacuum it up.

Sprinkle baking soda on the rug and allow it to sit overnight to help absorb any lingering odors that may be in the rug. In the morning, vacuum up the baking soda, and flip the rug over to repeat on the other side. Leave the baking soda on the rug for at least 2-3 hours before removing it.

Mix white vinegar and water in equal parts, and dip a clean cloth into it to gently blot the area clean.
