Baldwin 5225 Lockset Disassembly Instructions

Carl Pruit

Disassembling a Baldwin 5525 lockset is necessary in order to upgrade the hardware on the door. The Baldwin 5525 lockset has a set screw in the shaft behind the door knob that locks the knob to the shaft assembly. Removing the Baldwin 5525 lockset can be accomplished with just a few basic tools in less than an hour. If you have basic home repair knowledge, you can remove the lockset yourself.

  1. Locate the set screw underneath the shaft of the door knob, and remove it using an Allen wrench. Slide the door knob off the knob spindle, and remove the cover plate from the door.

  2. Unfasten the two screws that secure the spindle and back plate to the door using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Slide the spindle out of the door, and remove the door knob assembly from the opposite side of the door.

  3. Unfasten the screws that secure the face plate to the edge of the door frame using the Phillips-head screwdriver, and remove the plate. Grasp the latch bolt mechanism with your fingers and slide it out of the door.
