If you are a quilter, then you know how important it is to have plenty of table room to support your fabric. Most sewing machines do not come with adequate table space. Large fold up tables can be placed on both sides of the quilting machine, or you can opt to make your own machine quilting table. Setting your quilting machine up without proper table space means the material will lay on the floor. Every time you need to make a stitch you will have to pull on the material to bring it up to the right height. After awhile this can get extremely frustrating. Things You Will Need

Lay out a piece of 1-inch laminated shelving material so it is over the base of the sewing machine up against the machine's back wall. Trace a round circle, the size of the base, and the arm, on your sewing machine. Cut out the circle with a jigsaw.

Cut a 2-inch diameter dowel rod into eight equal pieces to create legs. Stick some non-skid rubber tips to the bottom of each leg.

Add another piece of shelving the same size as the first. Turn them over. Attach a metal leg support bracket to each of the four corners on both pieces of shelving. The brackets come with screws.

Insert screws, which are 1/2 wood and 1/2 machine, into each leg. The wood screw portion inserts into the dowel, and the machine screw portion screws into the metal bracket. Make sure the legs are screwed on tight.

Turn the shelving material back over. Lay out the piece with the hole on the base of the quilting machine so that the arm can extend down through the hole.

Position a large folding table in front of the machine so the table extension can rest on top of it. Lay the second piece of laminate shelving up against the first.
