Lock Instructions for Johnson Controls Thermostats

Julius Vandersteen

A Johnson Controls thermostat connects to a building’s heating and air conditioning system, and its thermometer detects the building’s temperature to control whether the furnace should activate and heat the building, or if the air conditioning should turn on and cool the building.

If everyone has access to the thermostat controls, conflict could ensue. Building supervisors may wish to lock the thermostat to prevent unauthorized people from changing its settings.

  1. Press the center key on the thermostat and hold it for about eight seconds. A password will appear in the thermostat controller display.

  2. Press the “Up/Down” arrow keys to highlight “Password 0,” which is the default password. If you have changed the password to a different number, ranging from “Password 0” to “Password 1,000,” press the “Up/Down” arrow keys until you highlight the correct password.

  3. Press the “Mode” key. The “Installer Configuration” menu will appear in the display.

  4. Press the center key and release it repeatedly to scroll through the configuration settings until “Lockout” is displayed. Press the “Up/Down” arrow keys to highlight “Lockout.” There are six lockout levels to choose from. Lockout level “0” provides access to all four thermostat functions: “Mode Setting,” “Fan Setting,” “Local Override,” and “Occupied Temperature Setpoints.” Occupied Temperature Setpoints are settings for when people are scheduled to be in the building. Level “1” provides access to all but “Local Override.” Level “2” provides access to “Local Override” and “Occupied Temperature Setpoints.” Level “3” provides access only to “Occupied Temperature Setpoints.” Level “4” provides access only to “Local Override.” Level “5” provides no access at all.

  5. Press the center key to save the lockout configuration.
