How to Disable a Smart Response on a Honeywell Programmable Thermostat

Kenneth Crawford

There are times when you may want to override the Smart Response on your Honeywell programmable thermostat. The Smart Response is like a mini computer. It will sense the air temperature and the wall temperature as well as the time of the day to determine when to cut the air conditioning or heat on to the home.

You set these parameters when installing the unit. However you can disable the Smart Response with a push of a single button.

  1. Go to the Honeywell thermostat and locate the button with the upright triangle. The button is on the upper right-hand side of the control console.

  2. Press the upright triangle button once with your finger and the Smart Response will be “off”. A “1” will show up on the right side of the display screen.

  3. Use the upright triangle button to turn on the Smart Response. Press the button once and the system will display a “0” indicating that Smart Response is activated.
