LG is a Korean brand that has been around since 1958, and produces a full line of TV, audio and video electronics and home appliances. LG washers have both in-line water inlet and drain pump filters that must be cleaned to ensure proper machine function. These filters help to remove particles from the intake and outflow water lines so that mineral and sewer clogs do not occur. To clean your LG Tromm water inlet filter you will only need a few tools and a little guidance.
Water Inlet Filter
Determine whether your water inlet filter needs to be cleaned. If your digital control panel is displaying an "IE" warning, it is indicating a problem with the water intake and a dirty inlet filter may be the cause. If there is no warning being displayed, but it has been three months or more since you have cleaned the filter, it is time to perform a cleaning.
Locate the water supply valve, which should be mounted on the wall somewhere near your machine. Turn the valve clockwise to stop the flow of water so you may work on the filter.
Locate the water inlet hose and filter at the top rear of your LG Tromm washing machine. Turn the hose clamp counterclockwise to loosen and remove it from the machine.
Use a pair of pliers to gently remove the water inlet filter from the rear of the machine in the hole occupied by the inlet hose. Use a hard-bristle brush to scour the inside and outside of the basket-shaped filter until all debris and buildup have been removed.
Reinsert the filter into the opening at the rear of your LG machine. Reinstall the water inlet hose and tighten it in place by turning it clockwise.
Drain Pump Filter
Determine whether your drain pump filter needs to be cleaned. If your digital control panel is displaying an "OE" warning message, a drainage problem is being indicated. A blocked drain pump filter may be the cause. If it has been more than one month since you have cleaned your drain pump filter, it is time to perform a cleaning.
Locate the lower cover cap at the bottom left side of the front of your LG Tromm washing machine as you stand in front of it. Use your flat-head screwdriver to remove the cap and turn the drain plug counterclockwise to release it from its housing. Extend the drain plug hose and empty any residual water into a bucket.
Locate the drain pump filter on the right side of the same compartment. Turn the filter counterclockwise and pull it outward until you can access the mesh filter within. Remove any debris or particles from the filter. Press the filter in and turn it clockwise to return it to its original state.
Replace the drain plug hose and turn it clockwise to fasten it in position. Close the lower cover cap and resume using the machine.
Things You Will Need
- Hard-bristle wire brush
- Flat-head screwdriver
While the water inlet filter can be cleaned a few times a year, the drain pump filter should be cleaned at least once a month, according to the LG online Knowledge Base. If your machine has just completed or is in the middle of a hot water wash when you decide to clean the drain pump filter, allow enough time for the water to cool before moving ahead with the process.
Always unplug your LG washing machine before cleaning it.
