How to Lubricate Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds can represent a significant investment. They can be a long lasting home improvement with the proper care, cleaning and maintenance on a regular basis.
Many homeowners are unaware that their blinds require lubrication so that they will operate properly and not place undue strain on the components of the blinds.
Things You Will Need
- Feather duster or dryer cloth
- Sponge
- Soap and water
- Clean rag
- Silicone lubricant spray
-
Get the loose dust off the vertical blind track by using a feather duster or dryer cloth. You do not want to apply lubricant over the top of dirt and dust; it will only make it stick and be even harder to clean.
-
Wash the track clean with a sponge dampened with mild soapy water.
-
Dry the track with a clean cloth, and allow it to air dry for a few minutes also.
-
Spray lubricant into the track so that you give both the tilt gears and the track a light coat of silicon. Do not use the more commonly available petroleum-based lubricants. Repeat the lubrication once a year for long lasting vertical blinds.
