Brushing

You can forgo using liquid cleaners and instead use the brush supplied by the manufacturer to brush off excess hair from the shaver. If you use an electric shaver with a foil cover on the head, pull the cover off and gently brush the hair away. This method works best on “dry” shavers, which don't require shaving lotion. If you use shaving lotion, the lotion will hold on to the hair and make it harder to remove. In these cases, a liquid cleaner is best.

Compressed Air

Compressed air works well for blowing hair out of the cutter head. Compressed air will get into the small cracks and crevices of the shaver where a brush cannot reach. Using compressed air to clean your shaver will get hair on your countertop but not all over your bathroom. If you use shaving lotion, however, you will need to wipe down your countertop after each cleaning. Compressed air is available at most computer supply retailers.

Competitor Cleaning Solutions

If you simply do not enjoy the smell of the Philips Jet Clean solution, you can use one made by another shaver manufacturer, such as Braun’s Synchro cleaner or Eltron/Parks cleaner solution. Most solutions are relatively the same. However, if you use a foil trimmer, select a cleaner designed to work with your trimmer head. Some cleaners could damage the foil inside the trimmer head.

Homemade Solutions

You can use white distilled vinegar for just about any cleaning task, including cleaning your razor. Mix one ounce of vinegar for every ten ounces of water, and soak the head of the trimmer just as you would with the Philips Norelco Jet Clean solution. Water is enough to wash away the debris but the vinegar removes odor from the trimmer head and makes it smell new. Once you remove the shaver from the solution, rinse the shaver with fresh water to remove the vinegar from the trimmer head.
