How to Remove Oven Spills

Spillovers from fruit pies and casseroles are more than smoky, unsightly messes.

They can cause oven fires, so be sure to clean up these spills thoroughly as soon as they happen.

Cover spills thickly with salt as soon as they drop on the oven floor, while the spots are still hot and soft. Continue cooking.

When the oven cools, the spills will solidify and lift away easily. Scrape them gently with a wooden spoon or spatula. Sweep away the crumbs with a brush.

Use a small pumice stone to clean old, scorched food spots easily without being exposed to harsh chemicals or dangerous fumes. When you rub the burned food with the pumice stone, it will leave a sandy residue that is easily brushed away.

Wipe the oven clean with a soapy cloth or sponge.
