Shower curtains and liners are especially vulnerable and are typically difficult to clean when the buildup is thick. Luckily, it's fairly easy to prevent the soap scum buildup using a mild wash routine.

Step 1

Fill a spray bottle with equal parts water and white vinegar, and also add a spoonful of laundry detergent. Shake the bottle to mix ingredients.

Step 2

Spray this over the shower curtain and liner during your regular bathroom cleaning routine, and wipe off the solution with a damp cleaning rag.

Step 3

Place the shower curtain or liner into the washing machine for deep cleaning. Place a few large towels into the washer as well so that the liner moves around more freely.

Step 4

Pour in a capful of your normal laundry detergent along with a cup of white vinegar. Run a hot water cycle and let the wash complete.

Step 5

Remove the curtains or liners when the cycle is finished and hang them back up in your shower area.
