Martin Adamovic

A Sligh grandfather clock is a great piece of furniture that can last for generations if it is properly cared for. Regularly oiling your grandfather clock keeps the gears moving smoothly and prevents wear and tear. Fortunately, you can oil your Sligh grandfather clock for little or no money yourself and keep it running smoothly for years to come.

Oiling a Sligh grandfather clock is easy
  1. Purchase a grandfather oil kit from your local furniture or clock store. Be sure that the kit has both oil and tools to apply oil.

  2. Access the front plate. Remove the clock dial to access the front plate. Apply oil to each connection and gear intersection.

  3. Fill the oil sink. On the outside of the clock plate there is a small indentation called the oil sink. fill the oil sink half full with clock oil.

  4. Oil the gear trains. Move from the bottom up and oil all of the gear trains. The areas that require oil will vary depending on the model of the clock. Verify the areas that require oil by referencing the clock's manual.
