How to Clean a Maytag Dishwasher

A dirty dishwasher will not be able to properly wash dishes, so occasional cleaning is recommended. This will keep the dishwasher running smoothly and prevent white spots and grimy film from forming on your dishes. According to the Maytag company, dishwashers should be cleaned as often as necessary. Keep in mind though, the vinegar rinse used in this cleaning method should only be performed when you notice spots on dishes, because using vinegar in the dishwasher too often could cause damage.

Mix powdered dishwasher detergent and water in a small bowl to form a paste.

Use a damp sponge to apply the paste to the inside of the dishwasher. Rub the interior of the dishwasher to remove any stains or dried-on food.

Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into a dishwasher-safe cup or bowl. Place this bowl upright on the bottom rack of the dishwasher.

Run a normal dishwasher cycle using no detergent and the air dry or energy-saving dry setting.

Wipe down the exterior of the dishwasher with a damp cloth. If there are stubborn stains, use a mild soap or detergent to remove them.

Things You Will Need

  • Dishwasher detergent
  • Small bowl
  • Sponge
  • White vinegar
  • Dishwasher-safe container
  • Rag
  • Mild soap

  • If you don't have powered dishwasher detergent, you can clean the inside of the dishwasher with liquid dishwasher detergent on a damp sponge, then run the vinegar cycle.
