How to Remove Body Odor From Laundry
When clothing comes through a wash cycle and odors such as body odors remain, this means that the fabric fibers are not free of bacteria. Keep your laundry looking and smelling clean by washing small loads and using household materials that clean the fabric fibers completely. With attention to detail, you can resolve laundry issues, clean stains and remove body odors from clothing.
Combine baking soda and water to make a thick paste. Spread the baking soda paste onto the areas of the clothing where the body odor originates. Allow the baking soda paste to set on the clothing for 20 minutes. Place the clothing into the washing machine after 20 minutes and wash as usual with laundry detergent.
Soak the laundry in bleach to remove odors. For whites, combine ¼ cup of chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of warm water in the bin. Place the clothing into the bleach solution and soak for five minutes. Rinse after five minutes and wash as usual. For items that are not color safe, combine 1 cup of color-safe bleach with 1 gallon of warm water in a bucket. Place the clothing items in the bleach solution and soak for up to eight hours. Wash as usual after the soaking period.
Place the dirty laundry in the washing machine. Set the water temperature to the hottest temperature that is safe for the fabrics you are washing. Add 1 cup of white vinegar, and measure an appropriate amount of laundry detergent for the wash load. Wash the laundry in a normal wash cycle.
- Washing clothing in the warmest water that is safe for the fabrics and washing clothes in small loads results in cleaner laundry. Hang wet laundry outside to dry in the sunshine to help remove odors.
