How to Clean the Bissell Shampooer

Bissell carpet shampooers are used to scrub stains out of carpets. The shampooers operate better when the unit itself is clean. Dirt and debris in the water tank, lint filter, flow control filter or wrapped around the power brush can lower the efficiency of the shampooer, and possibly create other carpet stains. Clean your Bissell shampooer regularly to ensure proper operation and cleaning efficacy.

  1. Turn off the shampooer. Press the handle release latch and lay the handle on the floor.

  2. Remove the water tank from the shampooer and pull the lid off the tank. Dump the remaining contents in the sink.

  3. Rinse the tank out with hot water. Wipe down the entire container with a sponge.

  4. Detach the lint trap from the tank cover. Rinse it with water and place it back on the tank cover.

  5. Twist the flow indicator filter and pull it out of the shampooer base. The flow indicator filter is located on the nozzle.

  6. Rinse off the flow indicator in hot water. Screw it back into the nozzle base.

  7. Turn the shampooer around so the nozzle base is facing up. Pull off any hair or debris caught on the power brush.

  8. Wipe down the outside of the shampooer with a damp cloth to remove dust and debris.
