Eljer Lavatory Faucet Repair

Steve Smith

Eljer makes a line of lavatory faucets for the bath. These faucets all have a cartridge system to control hot and cold water. Whether a one-handle or two-handle design, fixing these lavatory faucets requires removal of the handle and cartridge. It's a job anyone with basic handyman skills will accomplish with no problem. It does require an Eljer repair kit ,however, available at hardware and plumbing stores.

  1. Turn off the water to the faucet by closing the valves under the sink on both hot and cold water inlet pipes.

  2. Take off the Eljer lavatory faucet handle by removing the cap on top of the handle. Pry it out by hand or use a small screwdriver to remove it. Loosen the handle screw with the screwdriver and pull the handle off the base of the faucet.

  3. Pull the spring clip from the base of the handle. Unscrew the cartridge by turning it to the left. Pull the cartridge out of the base of the faucet and replace it with a new one from your Eljer repair kit.

  4. Insert the spring clip and move the stop washer to the position you desire to make the handle turn either clockwise or counterclockwise.

  5. Place the handle back on the cartridge and install the set screw with the screwdriver.
