Scrape loose paint from the home using a paint scraper. Hold the scraper at a 45-degree angle and lightly force it against the surface. Keep the blade at a 45-degree angle to prevent taking too much paint from the home or damaging the wood. Use a paint remover if necessary using the instructions on the packaging.
Fill a bucket with water and liquid detergent. Scrub the wall using a brush. This might remove more paint. Scrub the wall until the dirt is removed.
Rinse the house wall with clear water from a hose.
Paint any rusty nails with a rust inhibitor primer to prevent further rusting and decay.
Apply a primer using a soft brush to any areas of exposed wood 48 hours before painting the home.
