How to Use Bissell's Steam & Sweep

Rob Kemmett

The Bissell Steam and Sweep steams dirt from floors and sweeps it up in one simple step. It only works on hard floors such as wood and tile; it is ineffective on carpet. Some preparation is required before using the Steam and Sweep. Once prepared, all you have to do is push a button to create the steam and push the sweeper along the floor to suck up the mess; think of it as a lightweight vacuum cleaner. The Bissell Steam and Sweep requires simple assembly when purchased.

Assembly

  1. Slide the lower portion of the body onto the post located on the top of the swivel head. Align the screw holes.

  2. Insert the provided small screws into the holes and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.

  3. Slide the top portion of the body with the handle onto the top of the lower portion of the body. Align the screw holes.

  4. Insert the provided large screws into the holes and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.

  5. Insert the water tank into the holder located on the lower portion of the body. Push the water tank down until you hear it lock into place.

Preparation

  1. Press the Velcro covered side of a mop pad against the bottom of the swivel head. Pat the pad against the swivel head using the palm of your hand until it lies flat and is securely attached. Two mop pads are included with the purchase of a Bissell Steam and Sweep.

  2. Grab the water tank and pull it up and forward to remove it.

  3. Unscrew the cap located on the bottom of the water tank.

  4. Fill the water tank with water.

  5. Screw the cap back onto the water tank.

  6. Insert the water tank into the holder and push down until it locks into place.

  7. Twist the quick release cord wrap counterclockwise to release the power cord. Turn the "Brush" and "Power" switches to the "Off" position before plugging in the Steam and Sweep.

  8. Insert the plug of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  9. Turn the "Power" switch to the "On" position. If this is the first time you are powering on the Steam and Sweep, you will hear a knocking sound as the filter fills with water. This should continue for no more than 30 seconds. If the knocking sound continues for longer than 30 seconds, squeeze the trigger on the handle until the knocking stops.

Operating Instructions

  1. Turn the "Brush" switch to the "On" position. Wait for the "Ready" light to illuminate before you attempt to clean the floor.

  2. Position the Steam and Sweep over the dirty portion of floor you wish to clean.

  3. Press the "Steam" trigger to blast steam onto the floor. The steam function is optional. If you do not wish to use steam, rather only the sweeper, do not press the "Steam" trigger.

  4. Move the Steam and Sweep back and forth over the dirty area. The steam helps release stuck on dirt from the floor and the automatic sweeping mechanism sucks the dirt into the dirt container.

  5. Rest the Steam and Sweep on one spot of the floor without moving it. Press the "Steam" and leave the Steam and Sweep on the same spot of floor for 15 to 20 seconds. This process sanitizes the floor. Repeat this process on any spot of the floor you wish to sanitize.

  6. Stop sweeping the floor when the unit quits emitting steam; this means the water has run out. Refill the water tank before continuing.

  7. Turn the "Power" switch to the "Off" position when finished using the Steam and Sweep.
