Measure the doorway where you want to install the baby gate. Subtract 1 inch from the measurement to allow for room for the gate to open and close.
Cut 14 pieces of 1-inch-by-2--inch polar wood into slats as long as the measurement. Cut four pieces of 1-inch-by-2-inch poplar wood into 27-inch-long slats.
Lay the 14 slats on your work surface aligned horizontally. Space the slats 1 inch apart laying them on their 1-inch sides.
Cut a piece of plastic garden mesh 27 inches tall and as wide as your measurement from Step 1. Lay the mesh on top of the slats. Hammer one 1-inch-long nail every 2 inches through the mesh and into the slats along the top and bottom. Do not hammer nails through the side of the mesh.
Place two of the 27-inch-long slats on either end side of the mesh and the slats. Square the corners of the 27-inch slats with the horizontal slats. Hammer two nails through the 27-inch slats into each one of the horizontal slats, hammering through the mesh as you go.
Turn the slats over. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to attach a second piece of mesh and the final two 27-inch slats to the back of the gate.
Attach two 3-1/2-inch door hinges on the edge of one of the 27-inch slats using two 1-inch screws for each hinge. Place the hinges 3 inches in from the corner.
Attach a 1-1/2-inch-long hook to the opposite 27-inch slat. Position the hook in the middle of the slat.
Attach a 2-inch caster wheel to the bottom of the baby gate using four 1-inch nails. Position the wheel 2 inches in from the side of the gate where the hook is.
Attach the brackets to the wall where you want your baby gate installed using two screws per bracket. Position the gate so that the wheel sets flush with the ground and the rest of the gate is level.
Screw an eyehook into the wall at the same level as the 1-1/2-inch-long hook.
