Whirlpool washing machines have cycles with lower spin speeds, which pull out less water from your clothes. Use a cycle with a higher spin speed. See if the washing machine is creating too many suds. Over-sudsing can prevent the washing machine from spinning or draining. Use the right type of detergent for your washing machine, or use less during the next wash cycle. Press "Rinse and Spin" to empty out the water in the tub. Do not overload the tub, and redistribute the load around the agitator if it's unbalanced.
If the pump is clogged, your Whirlpool washer may not enter the spin cycle. Unplug the washing machine and remove the main access panel. Pull out any clogs with needle-nose pliers. Check the pump and determine if any part is broken. Replace the entire pump, if necessary, as it's difficult to fix this part. Order replacement parts from a Whirlpool parts dealer. Check the pump pulley, and see if it turns easily. If not, replace the pulley. Clean the drain hose with a plastic utensil if it's clogged, or straighten the hose if it's bent. See if the standpipe is more than 96 inches off of the floor, and lower it if necessary. The drain hose must not protrude more than 4 1/2 inches into the standpipe, and no more than 4 inches into the tub.
Check your home fuses or circuit breakers if your Whirlpool washing machine started spinning and stopped. Change out any fuses that have broken wires, or are black. Turn the circuit breaker back on if it tripped. Your washer won't start spinning if the lid is open, or if the washer thinks the lid is open. The lid switch lets the washer know that the lid is shut. Remove the main access panel, and test the lid switch with a multimeter. If it doesn't have continuity, replace it.
The drive block is located under the spin basket on Whirlpool washing machines. It has two ear slots that can wear out over time. You must replace the whole drive block if it worn since it's hard to repair the slots. Your washer won't spin if the transmission is leaking oil or has broken gears. Get a new transmission if you don't know how to rebuild this part.
