Sometimes, a Maytag refrigerator simply won't operate. Other times, the temperature might be too warm or too cold, moisture might be building up, or the icemaker and water supply might be malfunctioning.
Sometimes, a Maytag refrigerator simply won't operate. Other times, the temperature might be too warm or too cold, moisture might be building up, or the icemaker and water supply might be malfunctioning. Many issues are simple to fix and it’s unlikely your Maytag refrigerator needs major service, saving you the cost of a service call.
Set the temperature control to on if the Maytag refrigerator won’t run. Make sure the power cord is plugged into the wall--the power cord shouldn’t be confused with the water line, which is a clear plastic or brass tube.
Set the temperature controls on both the refrigerator and the freezer to the midlevel--that’s 5--if the temperature isn’t acceptable. Allow the refrigerator and freezer to stabilize for 24 hours, although it could recover quickly. Don’t keep opening the door if the refrigerator is too warm.
Adjust the freezer to a colder setting if food doesn’t freeze. Some items, like ice cream, are full of sugar, which won’t allow freezing completely. That’s part of the makeup of the product, and not a defect in the freezer.
Close the door properly if you see moisture buildup on the inside cabinet walls. Frequent or prolonged door openings in hot or humid weather will exacerbate the problem. Limit door openings. Wrap food properly if you see excessive moisture around the crisper.
Throw out the ice and clean the Maytag refrigerator icemaker bin with soapy water and a cloth if the ice tastes stale. Use airtight, moistureproof packaging for storing food because the smells can permeate the ice.
Replace the water filter if water from the refrigerator tastes stale. The filter will simply unclip or unscrew from its mount.
