How to Clean Black Residue on Stainless Steel Cookware
Stainless steel cookware resists corrosion and rust, but it is not completely stain resistant. Cooking on high heat or burning food in stainless steel cookware can leave black residue on the normally shiny finish. The acid in white vinegar can loosen residue and make it easier to remove.
Things You Will Need
- White vinegar
- Dish soap
- Nonabrasive scrub pad
- Dish towel
For best results, clean stainless steel cookware while it is still warm.
-
Fill the stainless steel cookware with 1 cup of white vinegar, and add water as needed to cover the stains. Boil the mixture on the stove for five minutes, and allow it to cool completely.
-
Wash the stainless steel cookware with hot, soapy water and a nonabrasive scrubbing pad.
-
Rinse the stainless steel cookware with cool water, and dry it thoroughly with a dish towel.
Warning
Do not use bleach or steel wool on stainless steel.
