How to Purchase Furniture Direct

When you are furnishing a home you may want to consider buying furniture directly from the manufacturers.

Buying Direct

Buying furniture direct saves money because you are buying directly from the source and not paying retail mark-ups. There are two ways of buying furniture direct. You can shop through a wholesale company or you can locate manufacturers in your area that sell to the public.

Go online and select a direct buy store or manufacturer. Places like Furnitureofamerica.com or Directhomediscount.com are good places to start. You can also look in your local phone book. Look in the furniture section of the phone book to locate manufacturers in your area.

Select your furniture. Most manufacturers will have a catalog for you to look through. This can be either an online catalog or a book sent through the mail. You may also be able to go to the manufacturer's warehouse to see what they have to choose from.

Place your order. Once you have found what you are looking for place your order with the manufacturer. Then make arrangements for payment and shipping.

Things You Will Need

  • Internet connection
  • Telephone
  • Phone book (optional)

Tip

  • If you don't find exactly what you are looking for ask the manufacturer if they are able to custom-build your furniture for you. Have an idea of the style of furniture you want when looking at catalogs or going to the meet with the manufacturer. This will keep you from becoming overwhelmed by all of the choices.

Warning

  • Be aware that some direct buy furniture companies may charge a membership fee in order to visit their warehouse or make a purchase. If you are planning to ask the manufacturer to make a custom piece there may be additional fees for custom work.
