How to Clean Velveteen Fabric
Velveteen, a velvet-like fabric often made from cotton, lends itself well to use in home decor and clothing. Through proper care and handling, velveteen has the potential to last for a long time. Fortunately, cleaning this fabric is not difficult. While professional dry cleaning is ideal for velveteen, you can wash, dry and iron it safely and effectively at home.
-
Turn the velveteen inside out if it was made into a garment.
-
Place the velveteen into your washing machine. Because velveteen attracts lint, do not add any fabrics that shed, like towels.
-
Pour detergent into the washing machine barrel. Set your washing machine to run on the delicate cycle.
-
Place your velveteen into the dryer once the wash cycle is complete. Set your dryer to run on the delicate cycle.
-
Iron the velveteen by placing it face down onto a clean towel. Set your iron to high heat with steam. Press the iron to the back of the fabric.
