How Do I Clean My Rinnai Tankless Water Heater?

The Rinnai tankless water heater heats water as it is used rather than holding heated water in a tank. Rinnai recommends cleaning the water heater at least once a year. It is important to keep the water heater free of debris and dust around the burner to prevent the possibility of a fire or other damage to the unit. Rinnai recommends never using spray cleaners or wet cloths when cleaning the tankless water heater. Follow the correct procedure when cleaning the water heater to avoid damaging the internal components of the unit.

A phillips screwdriver is used to open the front panel.

Turn off the Rinnai water heater. Disconnect the power cable. Allow the water heater to cool for at least one hour.

Remove the four screws holding the front panel in place. Remove the front panel.

Spray pressurized air around the main burner until all dust has been removed.

Wipe the interior of the cabinet with a soft dry cloth.

Replace the front panel and the screws that hold the panel in place.

Wipe the exterior of the cabinet with a soft dry cloth to remove all dust.
