How do I Clean a Champion Juicer?
Since 1955, Plastaket Manufacturing Co., has designed and manufactured the Champion Juicer line of vegetable-and-fruit-juice appliances that make not only juices and smoothies, but also a variety of foods, including sauces, sherbet, ice cream and nut butters.
Things You Will Need
- Mild detergent
- Microfiber cloths
- Nylon scrubbing brush
- Long-handled foam sponge brush
- Vegetable shortening
- Liquid olive or coconut oil (optional)
- Paper towels (optional)
The Champion Juicer features a single, steel-encased motor with parts that slide and unlock from the motor without removing clamps, screws or bolts for quick cleanup. As a result, cleaning your juicer only requires that you unlock it, pull it apart and wash the separate parts.
-
Turn off and unplug your Champion Juicer.
-
Fill a sink with cool water and a few drops of mild detergent--enough to make the water soapy. Place a microfiber cloth, nylon scrubbing brush and long-handled foam sponge brush in the water.
-
Turn the body piece to the right to unlock it and pull it out of the appliance. If the piece has the funnel attached, remove it. Place the body and/or funnel in the water.
-
Pull the screen, nylon blank and screen holder from the shaft. Soak the pieces in the water. If the screen has a lot of pulp on it, rinse it under running water to dislodge the bulk of the pulp before putting it in the water.
-
Slide the cutter out, pull the nylon scrubbing brush from the water and scrub the cutter carefully. Place the brush back in the water, pull out the microfiber cloth and wipe the bottom of the cutter around the shaft. When finished, rinse the cutter under running cool water--shaft end pointing down away from the water stream and the tip end pointing up--and place the cutter in a dish drainer to air-dry.
-
Wash the parts in the soapy water by hand with the microfiber cloth, nylon scrubbing brush and long-handled foam sponge brush. Rinse the parts thoroughly and set aside in a dish drainer to air dry.
-
Remove pulp from the stainless steel hub and wipe it and the motor with a slightly damp, soapy microfiber cloth, wiping around the oil seal in the hub carefully. Dampen another cloth in cool water and wipe away the soap residue. Wipe dry with another cloth.
-
Apply a thin film of vegetable shortening or liquid olive or coconut oil to the cutter shaft with a cloth or paper towel and reinsert the cutter into the juicer. Return the other parts to the juicer and store it.
Tip
If the cutter becomes vacuum-sealed, insert the head of a small screwdriver behind the cutter and pry it away slowly and gently. If you can't remove pulp from the screen with scrubbing, soak the screen in olive oil for an hour and try again. If dealing with heavily stained parts, pour 1 pint of bleach in a gallon jug and fill the jug with cool water. Soak the stained parts in the bleach solution in a container for approximately an hour. Repeat as needed until the stains fade, rinse the parts thoroughly until you can no longer smell bleach and then air-dry.
Warning
Never wash the parts in hot water or in a dishwasher. Only use the oils outlined in this article to grease the cutter shaft. Never use other food-grade liquid oils or petroleum jelly. Never allow sharp objects to touch the oil seal in the hub. Always wear a mask and gloves, open windows and turn on exhaust fans if cleaning with bleach.
