How Do I Replace Glass on a Microwave Door?

Replace the window on your microwave with little hassle.

You can replace this window within a few minutes with just a few tools commonly found around the home.

1. Buy replacement glass for your microwave. Replacement glass can be found online at specialty shops like AP Wagner or Repair Clinic. Replacement glass can also be found at retail shops that specialize in appliances. The microwave's owner's manual will have the proper size for the glass.

2. Unplug the unit from the wall outlet in your home. Pull on the top and bottom pins on the pivot bracket to lift the door up.

3. Put the microwave door on a flat surface and then unscrew the two screws from the unit’s doorframe with a screwdriver.

4. Remove the choke cover from the inner doorframe and then pry the choke cover out with a flathead screwdriver.

5. Release the clips from the metal frame and then pull the microwave door skin from the unit with a flathead screwdriver.

6. Pull the front panel away from the doorframe and then remove the screws that are holding the window on the microwave. Remove the window from the frame and then slide your new window in place.

7. Reattach the doorframe and then replace the screws holding it on. Replace the clips to the metal frame and then replace the microwave door skin.

8. Replace the choke cover and then secure the microwave door back onto the unit with the two screws. Replace the top and bottom pins on the pivot bracket. Plug the microwave back into the wall.
