Removing the back of a La-Z-Boy couch is the same as removing one from its recliner chairs. Each couch back pivots on a locking bracket. The key is uncovering the bracket lever so you can unlock the bracket.

Pull the La-Z-Boy couch far enough from any walls so you can comfortably get behind. Find the fabric strips with the Velcro that cover the rear lock levers. The flaps are at the lower center between the two backs and between each back and the lower portion of the arm.

Peel the fabric covering strips away to reveal the lock levers. Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the lever and the bracket from the bottom of the lever.

Pry the lever up with a screwdriver so it is pointing toward you. Repeat for each lock lever.

Grasp the back of the couch at the sides with both hands. Lift straight up to remove the back from the couch. Repeat for the opposite half of the couch.
