How to Light the Pilot on a GE Xl44 Stove

David Clair

The GE XL44 is a free-standing gas oven range that uses the home's gas supply line to fuel the stove burners. The cook top has four burners that are divided into pairs. There are two pilots for the stove that must both be lit in order for all the stove burners to work.

The pilots are lit with a match.

Once a pilot is lit, it will typically stay on continuously unless the gas supply is interrupted. If the range is moved to a new location, the pilot must be re-lit to operate the stove.

  1. Turn the stove top burner control knobs to the "OFF" position.

  2. Lift the front of the cook top up until it stays in place in the open position.

  3. Light a match. Light both stove pilots with the match. The pilots are small circular devices halfway between the front and back pairs of burners.

  4. Lower the cook top slowly to prevent the pilot lights from going out.
