How to Get Dog Urine out of Draperies

Diana Braun

Pets may go to the bathroom in your home for a variety of reasons. A cat or dog may be afraid, neglected or sick. A dog may spray urine on curtains or draperies to let its owner know that something may be wrong. Urine can be an extremely stubborn stain to remove if allowed to soak into fabric.

A dog may urinate if it's neglected, afraid or sick.

Use a few common household items to remove dog urine from draperies.

  1. Remove the draperies from the curtain rod and place them on a flat surface.

  2. Blot a paper towel over the urine to soak it up. Do not rub as this only causes the urine to further set into the fabric.

  3. Blot the stain with a wet paper towel to dilute the urine.

  4. Sprinkle baking soda over the stain and allow it to penetrate the stain for two hours.

  5. Vacuum up the baking soda.

  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 until the urine is completely removed.

  7. Wash the draperies with liquid detergent if the fabric allows.
