How to Replace a Door Gasket on an LG Washing Machine

If you go to get the laundry out of your LG washing machine and notice a puddle of water on the floor, you might have a problem with the door gasket. The purpose of these gaskets is to keep the water inside the LG washer during the wash cycle. A worn or torn gasket could allow water to escape, ruining both your wash and the floor. Luckily, replacing the door gasket on an LG washing machine isn't difficult and can be completed by even a newbie DIYer.

Step 1

Turn off the power for the LG washing machine. You can either unplug the washer from the wall socket, or cut the power to the socket at the main circuit breaker.

Step 2

Open the LG washer door. Locate the outer washer band. This is the wide metal strip holding the seal in place around the perimeter of the door. This may be held in place with a spring type clamp, or you may be able to pry it off with a flat bladed screwdriver.

Step 3

Locate the inner clamp. This holds the seal in place on the washer drum. How it is attached depends on the model. Some LG washers use a series of clips to hold the seal in place that need to be removed. In this case, remove the clips at the top of the drum first and work your way round. Use the pliers, if needed.

Step 4

Gently pull the gasket off of the drum assembly.

Step 5

Apply a few drops of liquid dish soap to the drum side of the new LG washing machine door gasket. The drum side is the narrower than the door side.

Step 6

Gently slip the gasket into place over the drum. Secure with the clips or clamp assembly. Secure the other side of the gasket to the door assembly. Secure with the clamp.

Step 7

Restore power to the LG washer.
