Choose the appropriate installation location for your Jenn-Air cooktop. You will need at least two utility connections for a successfull installation: electricity and venting. If this is a gas Jenn-Air, you will also need a gas connection to the installation location.
In addition, your Jenn-Air will require a certain amount of space underneath the installation location for the downdraft housing. Check in the installation manual for the exact height, width and depth requirements for your Jenn-Air model.
Cut the power to the circuit where you will be installing the Jenn-Air cooktop at the main circuit breaker. Test the wires with a voltmeter to ensure that the power has been cut.
Mark out a location on the countertop and cut it out, if necessary. The specific dimensions needed for your Jenn-Air cooktop differ from model to model and will be included with the isntallation instructions. Use a power drill to drill a hole in one corner of the countertop. Use a jigsaw with the appropriate cutting blade to cut the hole out for the Jenn-Air range. Sand down any rough edges with a file or power sander. If you have a new island that has been made for a Jenn-Air cooktop, no cutting is needed.
Remove the Jenn-Air cooktop from the shipping packaging. Remove any vent grills or ceramic coverings. Have an assistant help you lift the cooktop up and into the installation location. Pull out the foam padding for the countertop installation included in the packaging and set it aside.
Place the included foam padding around the diameter of the installation hole. This will cushion the Jenn-Air cooktop against the counter and help it to fit into place properly.
Secure the Jenn-Air cooktop to the countertop from below with the included clamps.
Connect the blower to the ventilation system. If needed, the blower can be rotated by loosening the nut on the side with a socket wrench.
Run the wiring cables from the stove cooktop to the electrical junction box. Connect the black wires from the cooktop to the black wires in the junction box and the white wires to the white wires. The copper grounding wire should be paired either with the copper wire in the junction box or to the junction box body. Connect the wires with the wire nuts and secure with electrical tape. Use the wire strippers to cut any wires as needed.
Connect the gas supply hose to the gas inlet. Tighten the coupling with a wrench.
Level the stovetop. Many Jenn-Air models have leveling legs that can be individually adjusted to level the unit. Use a spirit level the check the angle of the cooktop and adjust the legs as needed by unscrewing them.
Restore the power to the electrical circuit.
Replace the grill filter, grill cover and any other accessories on the top of the Jenn-Air cooktop. Start the cooktop and test it for functionality.
