How to Install a Mailbox Flag in Brick
Mailbox flags indicate to a postal carrier that an item is in the mailbox for pickup. Many mailboxes are equipped with flags when purchased, while others require flag installation. Brick mailboxes present the special challenge of how to attach the flag to the hard surface of the brick.
Prior to flag installation, a hole must be drilled into the brick with a hammer drill equipped with a masonry bit.
Things You Will Need
- Pencil
- Tape measure
- Hammer drill
- Masonry bit
- Plastic screw anchor
- Screw
- Mailbox flag
- Screwdriver
-
Measure and mark the location for flag placement. Make sure the location is on a brick surface and not in the mortar between the bricks. Adjust the location if necessary.
-
Place the tip of the masonry bit on the mark. Drill a hole or the required number of holes into the brick; make sure the hole or holes are large enough to accommodate the plastic screw anchor.
-
Insert a plastic screw anchor into the hole.
-
Line up the mailbox flag to the holes in the brick.
-
Insert the screw or screws in the appropriate locations and secure to the brick.
