How to Replace Door Parts on the Frigidaire FMV156DCC
The Frigidaire FMV156DCC is an over-the-range microwave; placement over the range saves kitchen counter space. Over-the-range microwaves tend to receive more use because of their convenience, which results in a lot of opening and closing of the door. Over time, door parts can break and require replacement. Replacing door parts on the Frigidaire FMV156DCC requires removing the door from the microwave unit. Replacement door handles, door latches and door glass are available through Frigidaire and some appliance repair centers.
Step 1
Open the cabinet door above the microwave and unplug the Frigidaire power cord from the dedicated wall outlet. Close the cabinet door and open the microwave door.
Step 2
Pull the top of the grill above the door opening away from the microwave while pressing upward on the bottom of the grill. Once the lower tabs release from the microwave, remove the grill completely from the microwave.
Step 3
Hold the door open so that it is 90 degrees perpendicular to the microwave. Lift up on the door until the hinge pins clear the hinge holes. Slide the door away from the microwave and off the hinges. Place the door face down on a flat surface.
Step 4
Insert a small flat-head screwdriver in the notch at the bottom edge of the door on the right corner. Twist the screwdriver handle to begin prying off the seal plate from the main door. The seal plate is the inner door panel that surrounds the glass. Continue working around the perimeter of the door, prying the seal plate off completely.
Step 5
Lift the glass from the door panel. Once the glass is out of the door panel, the screws securing the door latch and the door handle will be visible. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 6
Line up the door handle against the front of the door and over the mounting holes. Secure the handle with the retaining screws. Insert the door latch into the notch on the edge of the door, aligning the threaded holes on the door latch with the mounting holes. Secure with the retaining screws.
Step 7
Place the new door glass into the door panel, ensuring the cotton gasket does not fold around the galls. The cotton gasket comes pre-glued to the outside edge of the glass.
Step 8
Press the inner seal plate into place over the door. Pick the Frigidaire door up and line it up the hinge pins with the hinges. Lower the door firmly until the hinge pins engage into the hinges. Press the grill into place on the microwave, starting from the bottom of the grill.
Step 9
Close the microwave door and plug the power cord back into the dedicated outlet.
Tips
- The door hinges are beyond the scope of most homeowners since the front of the microwave requires disassembly.
