How to Get to the Motor of a Maytag Atlantis Washer
Maytag manufactures a wide variety of consumer appliances, from ovens and refrigerators to washers and dryers. The Maytag Atlantis series of appliances consists of several models of both washers and dryers. Maytag Atlantis washing machines have a motor that drives the agitator, which moves the clothes during the wash cycle. If the motor fails, you can attempt to repair or replace it yourself. Accessing the motor is as simple as removing the front panel of the washing machine.
Unplug the washing machine from the wall. Turn off the water supply valves by turning the handles on the valves clockwise until they're tight.
Lift up on the top-cover assembly of the washer. While lifting, insert a putty knife between the top-cover assembly and the top of the front panel, approximately 3 inches from the corner, to release the wire clip holding the front panel to the washer. Repeat for the other side until both sides of the top of the front panel are free.
Lift the top cover and secure it in the stationary position.
Remove the two 5/16-inch bolts securing the front panel of the washing machine to the cabinet using the socket wrench.
Pull the top of the front panel away from the front of the cabinet and then lift up on the panel to remove it. You now have access to the motor.
