John Rose

The first step in making any repair to your Maytag Ensignia washing machine is being able to disassemble it. Once the machine is apart, you can make the necessary repairs. The ability to repair your home appliances yourself can save you a great deal of money by avoiding having to make that call to a technician.

The average do-it-yourselfer can disassemble a Maytag Ensignia washing machine in less than an hour. The instruction is specific to the top-loading model of the Maytag Ensignia.

  1. Unplug the Maytag Ensignia power cord from the electrical outlet. Never attempt to service any appliance when there is power to it. Pull the washing machine 12 inches from the wall. This will give you space to lean the top back against the wall. Insert a putty knife between the top cover and the front panel of the machine at the corner.

  2. Release the locking clip at the corner by pushing the putty knife against it. Do the same for the other corner. Lift the top of the washing machine up and towards the wall in the back of the machine and lean it there while you are working. Remove the screws securing the front panel of the washing machine to the frame using a screwdriver. These retaining screws are on the inside of the washing machine.

  3. Raise the front panel of the Ensignia washing machine up slightly and pull it away from the frame. This will give you access to most parts that need servicing. Make the necessary repairs to the Maytag Ensignia washing machine.

  4. Place the front panel on the machine, making sure that you insert the locking clips from the panel into the frame. Install the retaining screws for the front panel inside the machine using a screwdriver. Lower the top of the machine down onto the frame. Push on each corner to lock the top into place.

  5. Plug the power cord into the electrical outlet and push the machine against the wall. Turn the washing machine on for a short cycle to test the new parts.
