How to Change the Water Filter in a Maytag Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Many models of Maytag side-by-side refrigerators have a water dispensing unit on the front door of the machine.

The refrigerator is hooked up to a water line and filters the water that moves through the dispenser. The filter used in Maytag side-by-side refrigerators has a finite lifespan and should be changed at least every 12 months to ensure effective filtering.

Activate the water dispenser on the refrigerator door for at least two minutes to remove air from the water line. If you try to remove the filter with air in the line, the filter may eject off of the filter head and damage the refrigerator or cause injury.

Open the refrigerator door and locate the filter holder in the upper right corner.

Pull on the filter cover locking tab to open the filter cover.

Twist the filter counterclockwise to remove it from the filter head. Hold the filter up to keep water from leaking onto the floor. Dispose of the filter.

Insert the replacement filter into the filter head and twist it clockwise until it stops.

Push up on the filter cover until you hear a click. The water filter is now installed and ready for use.
