Fill your kitchen sink with 1 gallon of hot water, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of salt.
Cut a 1-foot-long piece of aluminum foil into small 4-inch by 4-inch square sections and place them in the sink.
Gently place your silver-plated items in the sink and let them sit for five minutes. A natural chemical reaction will cause the tarnish to disappear from the silver and reappear on the foil.
Remove the items from the sink and rinse them with warm water.
Dry the items with a clean, dry cloth.
