Whirlpool Side-By-Side Instructions
Whirlpool manufactures many different models of refrigerators, with different designs such as "Side-By-Side," "French Door" and "Freezer-on-Top." Side-by-side units place the refrigerator and freezer beside one another, with the refrigerator cavity typically consuming 2/3 of the total appliance storage space. Most Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators also include built-in ice makers, as well as ice and water dispensers built into the door. Many Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator functions are controlled from the ice and water dispenser control panel, including internal temperature adjustment of both the refrigerator and the freezer.
Press the "Temperature" button on the ice and water dispenser to adjust the temperature of the refrigerator and freezer. Press the "Ice" button to lower the freezer temperature and press the "Light" button to raise it. Each press of a button will raise or lower the temperature 1 degree. Use the "Lock" and "Fast Ice/Cool" buttons to lower and raise the temperature of the refrigerator 1 degree at a time. Alternatively, some models have a temperature control knob located in both the refrigerator and the freezer. Turn this knob to adjust the temperature of the cavity. By default, the freezer is set to 0 degrees Fahrenheit and the refrigerator is set to 37 degrees Fahrenheit.
Press the "Fast Ice/Cool" to increase the speed at which the ice maker produces ice or to quickly cool the contents of the refrigerator, which is helpful when leftovers or groceries are placed into the refrigerator, or if the door has remained open for a prolonged period of time. Press the button once to enable the "Fast Ice" setting, twice enable the "Fast Cool" setting, three times to enable both settings and four times to disable both settings.
Press the "Ice" button to choose between cubed and crushed ice when ice is dispensed from the ice dispenser.
Press the "Lock" button to lock the control panel controls, including the ice and water dispenser functions, to prevent unwanted use, such as by a child. Press the "Lock" button once again to resume normal operation.
Change the internal light bulbs as needed by unscrewing the light cover, then removing the light bulb from the light socket. Replace the bulb with a new 40-watt bulb, then replace the light cover. Be sure to disconnect power to the refrigerator prior to removing the light bulb.
Change the water filter every six months. Some models of Whirlpool refrigerators will have water filters that screw into the housings. Others styles will have filters that must be fully inserted into the water filter housing and pushed in to be released. After changing the filter, press and hold the "Filter" button on the control panel to reset the water filter reminder light.
Remove and rearrange shelves in the refrigerator and freezer cavity by lifting the front of the shelf, then pulling the brackets out of the shelf hangers. Insert the hangers into brackets at a 45-degree angle at the new location at which you would like to place the shelf, then lower the shelf level.
