How to Remove the Front Panel From a GE Electric Dryer

As a rule, dryers last for many years; with proper care, they may last even longer. Knowing how to open the dryer to remove lint build up or replace a belt may save you money on basic repairs and help the machine operate more efficiently. By operating without strain on certain areas, the unit is more likely to last.

  1. Unplug the dryer. Locate the screws needed to open the dryer. They should be in either the lint trap on top of the dryer or above the door. Open the door and look in the frame of the opening.
  2. Take out the screws.
  3. Look at the front of the dryer near the top. If you see a crack where two sections come together, there might be latches that you need to release. Look in the crack on the left and right sides near the edges. Lift up on the top slightly and insert a flathead screwdriver. Push in on the latches to release them.
  4. Slowly lift the top up and lean it back. Look in the dryer for a wire plug; this is the wiring for the door that tells the dryer the door is open or closed. Pull the plug out and let it hang.
  5. Locate the screws down in the front panel of the dryer. Unscrew them, then pull the front panel out and away from the dryer.
