How to Turn off a KitchenAid Refrigerator's Defrost Timer
KitchenAid refrigerators have built-in defrost timers that run periodically to keep your fridge from frosting your food. You can adjust your KitchenAid refrigerator's defrost timer and turn it off altogether using the thermostat that was built into the appliance for this exact purpose.
-
Locate the utility panel on your KitchenAid refrigerator. Depending on the model, it will be located either on the top of the refrigerator or on the bottom on the front portion of the unit. Many controls for your refrigerator are behind this panel, including the defrost timer.
-
Remove the utility panel on your KitchenAid refrigerator with a screwdriver. Set the screws aside so that you will have them at the ready when you need to reattach the utility panel later on.
-
Turn the knob on your defrost timer until you hear it "click." This clicking noise indicates that the defrost timer is now set to off. Replace the utility panel on your KitchenAid refrigerator and screw it in.

Tips
- Note that some KitchenAid refrigerator panels include the defrost timer controls on the main temperature control unit inside the refrigerator. This is the same control unit you use to set the refrigerator's overall temperature, and the dial for the defrost timer will be clearly labeled.
- If you have a KitchenAid refrigerator with a digital control system, you can also accomplish the same thing by enabling "Holiday Mode" on your unit.
