How to Fit an IKEA Klippan Sofa Cover

Charlie Higgins

IKEA makes do-it-yourself decorating a snap with their self-assembly style products. The Kipplan sofa and sofa cover are sold separately, so you can mix and match your cover according to your decor, or quickly replace soiled or damaged covers. The Klippan sofa cover can be installed at home in just a few easy steps.

Tip

Enlist the help of a friend or relative to fit the IKEA Klippan sofa cover. It will be much easier and safer to complete this activity with two people, especially when you are required to tip the sofa onto its side. If you are unsure about how to fit your Klippan sofa cover, contact your nearest IKEA store for assistance.

  1. Ensure there is adequate working space around your Klippan sofa by pulling it away from the wall and moving any other furniture or objects that may get in the way. Remove the existing Klippan sofa cover if you have one.

  2. Drape the Klippan sofa cover over your sofa so that the corners are aligned. Pull the cover down all the way so that the edges are in line with the base of the sofa. Ensure the hook and loop tape fasteners along the edges of the cover are face-down.

  3. Attach the hook and loop tape on the cover to the tape on the sofa, which runs around the perimeter of the underside. Tip the sofa up onto each longitudinal side for better access and vision when joining the hook and loop tape strips.

  4. Tuck the cover in along the junctions between the seat and back cushions, including the line between the seats and the arms, and the back and the arms. Note the straps on the fabric that tucks between the seat and back on the back of the cover. Insert the foam strips that come with the cover in the crease between the seat cushions and each arm, which prevent the cover from slipping off the sofa.

  5. Tip the couch on its front side and attach the straps on the sofa cover that have been pushed though behind the seat cushions to the springs on the underside of the sofa. Return the sofa to an upright position.
