If you open the door to your Whirlpool ice maker and don't find any ice, use a step-by-step approach to troubleshooting and resolving the problem. Several malfunctions can cause an ice maker to stop working, so eliminating each issue one by one is generally the best approach.

Step 1

Pull the refrigerator far enough from the wall to check the water line. Verify that the water line is connected, the connection is tight and the main water valve is turned on.

Step 2

Check the water line to ensure it is not kinked or otherwise twisted. Straighten out the water line if it is twisted or kinked.

Step 3

Look at the arm or switch on the ice maker. Ensure that the switch is set to the "on" position or the arm is in the "on" position.

Step 4

Check inside the ice maker and look at the ejector arm. Remove any jammed ice from the ejector arm. Use a plastic utensil to remove the jammed ice.

Tip

  • You might need to wait up to 24 hours for more ice to be produced if you have recently removed a large amount of ice from the ice maker.
